Island Renovation and Expansion

Island Renovation and Expansion

CTA was asked by a past client to assist with the relocation and expansion of their house on Nantucket. The house and the adjacent garage, both dating from the 1920s, were picked up and moved 40 feet to the north, away from the bluff and closer to an adjacent property also owned by the family. New landscaping was designed to tie the two houses together. The design team was also tasked with creating basement spaces which did not feel like a basement; this was done through a series of daylighting studies. The total project required a very specific level of coordination and detail, coordinating the structural support for the masonry fireplaces and chimney with the existing frame structure, as well as with the HVAC and plumbing requirements.

The project required extensive regulatory review, and construction was fast tracked to meet the tight construction season on island.

The design team was also responsible for all interior finishes and many furnishings.
